The story of “Lizzie Richardson Day” in Sheldon is in the current issue of TIME magazine. The issue is due on the and newsstands tomorrow and Saturday under the date of Feb. 24. A photograph of Bernard Hoffman of LIFE magazine accompanies the article which appears on page 52 under the Education section.
B.D. Chapman, former Sheldonite, now with TIME magazine, has arranged that extra copies should come into Sheldon.
Bernard Hoffman made a total of 175 photos in connection with the community observance here last week.
The oldest student of Miss Lizzie in attendance was Fred Sproull of Watseka, and the youngest was Donald Mabbitt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Mabbitt of Sheldon.
At the tea and reception last Wednesday afternoon the teachers of the Sheldon Grade School presented Miss Richardson with a beautiful rhinestone brooch.
Our honored Sheldon citizen received more than 400 cards and congratulatory messages during the observance of her 50 years of teaching.
Bert Chapman said, “The story is scheduled to run in our Canadian, Latin American editions as well as those printed overseas, which means over 2,000,000 readers will hear about “Lizzie Richardson Day” in Sheldon.”
Miss Lizzie Richardson, now teaching her 50th year, is the recipient of a beautiful gold pin, the gift of the Iroquois County Teachers’ Association.
February 12 was set aside as “Lizzie Richardson Day” in Sheldon. In the morning the grade school had a program for her. She was crowned queen, given an orchid corsage, and was presented with a basket of flowers from the grade school children. The fourth grade gave a skit about how Miss Lizzie used to drive her horse, “Old Tex”, to school.
In the afternoon a tea was held in her honor by the teachers.

Miss Elizabeth Richardson was saluted nationally over the American Broadcasting Company at 10:15 when she was selected the “Good Neighbor of the Day” on Tom Breneman’s “Breakfast in Hollywood” program.
Following the broadcast a gorgeous Arm Roy orchid was dispatched via air express from Cedrics in Hollywood to Miss Richardson.

In Miss Lizzie’s own words, “If I had to do it over again, I’d do the same thing. Children forget lots of what you taught them, but not the example you set for them.” The example Miss Lizzie set, may be found in the “Golden Rule.” She died May 1958.
